Who We Are

Few Words About Us

Many tears have been wiped. Many have been given a shoulder to cry on. Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or JDF, is a charitable organization with the primary objective to offer moral support to children, teenagers and youngsters living with type 1 diabetes. A registered trust set up in 1982 by a handful of doctors and parents of insulin-dependent children, it also caters to the physical, psychological, emotional and medical needs of its members. At our clinic in Mumbai, JDF *has also been providing* medical needs at a minimal or no cost to the economically underprivileged. A team of diabetologists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, diabetes educators and dietitians work on an honorary basis while the administrative work is, by far, handled by our members who work as volunteers.
Over the past four decades, JDF has stood rock solid like a huge banyan tree, offering shade and succour to its members. Simply said, JDF offers balm for the soul.

Our Founder, our Aba

MAHARASTHRA CHAPTER

I am partial towards people who have childhood diabetes’. Tha is what the late diabetologist Dr VS Ajgaonkar often said jocularly. Jokes apart, Dr Ajgaonkar showed his love for people having type 1 diabetes in different ways throughout his life. The biggest living proof of this is JDF, or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the oldest support group for people having type 1 diabetes in India. It was Dr Ajgaonkar who conceived and launched JDF with the help of like-minded colleagues. A sapling that was planted in the early 1980s has today grown into a huge tree that works for the welfare of people with type 1 diabetes. He did not really have to start any such support group. Hard-pressed for time with his flourishing clinical practice, he could have gone about working only on the clinical front. But Dr Ajgaonkar went beyond the call of duty to do his bit to empower the children he was “partial” towards.
